Etsy Labs: Make your story / Etsy

Etsy Labs | Make your story workshop
Etsy

This is Marta, working in Etsy NL,
all the events are organized by Marta and Alice,
thank you :)))

"Etsy exists to bring heart, meaning, and community back to commerce.
We envision a world where individuals and their small businesses shape economies that are fair, durable, and fun. Here, we value the people and the stories behind the things in our lives as much as we value price or convenience. During DDW we will therefore focus on the story behind ’the maker’ and ’their product’.

We will literally show you how to "make" your story from beginning till end. You will leave this labs with your first storybook! It will be also your chance to meet our Creative Director Randy J. Hunt (NY) and our European Director Matt Stinchcomb (Berlin)!

Marta
Lots of paper in different thickness, texture and color.

My dear dear friend Manju came as well (hugs)
the topic of the workshop is to make a story,
and really make it into a book.
They also teach you how to bind, in many ways.
As for the story, take yourself as the center of the whole story,
cut some image and made a collage about who you are now,
and then think about what you wanna become/what you wanna do/ to be,
OR look backward, see the past, your path that makes "YOU" today.

i think this is a good topic, about the future, envision it, dreaming about it, or anything,
it doesn't really matter, everything in the future is possible.
OR look backwards at everything in the past that accomplish you today.
there's no definite GOOD or BAD about the things you've done,
or if one thing is beneficial for your future,
everything you've gone through is like dot that links everything,
so not just one single thing that decide who you are today,
is the combination of allllll the experience not matter a happy one or an unhappy one.

anyway, it's quite though provoking while i was cutting the images to make the collage.
and i do like it,
it made me think of the thing in the past and the future,
appreciate all the things I've gone through, looking forward to everything happening in the future.
:)

我覺得都是很好的自我認識 {?!又亂翻譯}

one of the page of my book,
in represent the path on the road to my ideal future,
as i'm gonna travel a bit in Europe still,
and the even if i go back to Taiwan,
life will still be a bit like go "traveling" of you see everyday as a new adventurous day,
and everyday could be a "traveling" day in your imagination if you want to.

Besides, it also somehow resembles my past 10 years,
leaving home for 10 year because of studies.
and have been always packing up everything and unpack again,
moving from one place to another.
I appreciate that experience, it makes you grow up and being independent,
but also makes "home-sick" become the deepest fear in the bottom of my heart .
[too nostalgic recently]

another page of the future i imagined,
I'm gonna open a small store+cafe,
so there will definitely be a board showing the up coming events and the menu!

and the store will be a place for you to relax, to think something or think nothing.
and would be nice if the table and chair are vintage and in Mix&Match style :)

People are working on it happily

the event is held in an old factory in Section C in Eindhoven,
which was quite out of the city center.
but i always love the feeling of the old factory,
for me, it is one of the most lively place!
and also because of all the old/traditional/original objects and icon used in the building.
btw, it's called Smalle Haven, also have one in the city center

Smalle Haven

the small book made by Marta as an example for the event.
Marta

i like this way of binding a lot

make all the paper into a stack and align one side.
clip the paper and drill the hole(?!) punch? with niddle

i loooove this kind of brownish paper with some light stripes on it!!!

there's also a restaurant here, it's called "Smalle Haven",
it also sells vintage stuff there, and of course the atmosphere.

i couldn't use the traditional Japanese binding,
so the instructor suggests me to use the inner part instead of using the side to bind the book.
then i make three cross 'cuz it's the city logo of Amsterdam,
and i do like it's simplicity and what x means in europe. (kiss)
x=親
o=抱

beside the main content, the cover is a long long long paper,
so i fold several times.

Finished!!!!
wanted to make the cover a bit like flower :)
and then when i place the knife and spoon on top of it,
it became a napkin suddenly

the first page, it's me, NOW!
smiling, happily, luckily....as always :)

then this is kind of my current situation,
light like bubble, as colorful as the surface of the bubble seen under the sun.
a bit dreamy, flying in the air,
breathing and breathing.

imagination of the store in the future,
a board is required.

the end of the story,
the warm feeling i wanna transfer to the people who visit the store,
the feeling that makes them smile

: )
